The Keemala luxury resort is located in the middle of the rainforest, close to Phuket. The resort has 38 peaceful, unique guest houses. As they are positioned in the hills, they overlook Kamala Village and the Andaman Sea. For designing both the infrastructure and the interiors, Architect Space collaborated with the Pisud Design Company.
The idea behind the design is based on the story of four fictitious indigenous clans. All of the clans are said to have their own particular traditions and lifestyles, resulting in clay pool cottages, tent pool villas, tree pool houses and bird’s nest pool villas. Of course, Sioen was involved in the tent pool villas, as they are the only ones with tensile membrane roofs.
The designers wanted to highlight the area’s tropical landscape in a sustainable way, combining the cutting-edge design with sustainable building solutions. The colours that were chosen are perfectly fitting the wild application, beautifully integrating with nature and the many natural features that were included in the design, such as trees and waterfalls.
The Keemala tent pool villas are covered with a Sioen Fluomax roof, that was especially designed with splendid organic curves. The Fluomax membrane is durable, lightweight and watertight. Its durability impeccably fits the natural building materials that were used. In addition, the design team chose to recycle the resources that were found on-site, taking into account the surrounding ecosystem as much as possible.
It is clear that the architects have created the new benchmark for luxurious tent houses in a green environment. Architect Space did a marvellous job designing the buildings with the en-suite swimming pools, contrasting design with the natural features. Pisit Aongskultong from the Pisud Design Company took care of the resort’s interior. Finally, the membrane structure was assembled by Sang Thong Co., Ltd.
